Context

Given the extent of the support that the ICT unit must provide to other units of the UNFPA Côte d’Ivoire Office, the recruitment of an ICT Assistant is necessary. Under supervision, the assistant will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of IT equipment, technical support to users, network and security management, hardware and logistics management, collaboration and development, as well as other responsibilities such as replacing the ICT manager and managing the helpdesk. This volunteer will also ensure the daily management of all IT activities at UNFPA Côte d’Ivoire. He or she will also provide technical support to users, particularly through IT assistance tasks. He or she will also participate in the implementation of the migration of the ICT infrastructure to new innovation tools, initiated by headquarters since 2024.

Task description

Under the general supervision and technical coordination of the IOM and the direct supervision of the ICT Associate, the volunteer will be responsible for the following responsibilities in IT hardware management and technical support: Installation, configuration and maintenance of IT equipment: ● Installation and configuration of users’ IT hardware.

● Diagnosis and resolution of network alarms, preventive maintenance.

● Management and maintenance of the office’s help desk, hardware and computer software.

● Monitoring and maintaining optimal performance of all ICT systems, including antivirus, printing services, email and secure network access for remote users.

● Network file backup and recovery.

● Updating and backing up hardware and software taking into account security aspects.

Technical Support to Users: ● Provide effective technical support for all network related issues.

● Train staff in the use of basic equipment.

● Provide technical support for organizing webinars.

● Prioritize user requests and respond to their needs based on urgency and importance in daily business interactions.

Network Management and Security: ● Understanding of UNFPA IT structure for effective fault management.

● Assistance to the ICT manager for the development of an ICT performance dashboard.

● Establishing and maintaining network standards, preventing anomalies and breakdowns, and defining expansion or modification projects.

● Ensure data security and provide appropriate advice to protect against internal and external threats.

Equipment and logistics management: ● Organization and monitoring of IT and communications equipment reception operations.

International organization vacancies
● Maintaining a detailed intervention register and archiving information.

● Support for office asset management (inventory of IT equipment).

● Supervision of supply needs for workshops.

Collaboration and Development: ● Collaboration with office coordinators, operations, programs, projects and ICT managers of sister agencies to resolve complex issues.

● Participation in the development and deployment of the eFace application for scanning FACEs.

● Support for the implementation of the Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP), including promoting the use of Drive for backups.

● Keep informed of the latest technologies and advise the office on their use to improve productivity.

Other responsibilities: ● Replacement of the ICT manager during his absences.

● Formatting and archiving of intervention reports.

● Participation in other tasks within his/her area of ​​expertise.

● Active participation in helpdesk management.

– Professional experience at national and/or international level in the ICT/Telecom Network field or other relevant programs;

– Demonstrating a good knowledge of the UNFPA organization is an asset, as is experience working at the UN or another international development organization;

– Have experience in IT and network maintenance and a good knowledge of ICT policies and procedures,

– Know how to make appropriate and transparent decisions,

– Demonstrate good writing skills (correspondence, reports, minutes (etc.), focus on the result for the client and react positively to feedback,

– Demonstrate and apply technical and professional knowledge of the position,

– Have a good command of French; a good knowledge of English would be an asset, office applications: MS Office 2016 Suite/Microsoft 365/Zoom Meeting/Microsoft Teams/Google Meet,

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own accommodation and other living essentials. This position is based in Côte d’Ivoire, in the city of Abidjan. National UN Volunteers are part of the Malicious Insurance Plan. National UN Volunteers must be culturally sensitive and adapt to the prevailing culture and traditions.

Conditions of Employment for National United Nations Volunteers

The contract is valid for the period indicated above with the possibility of extension subject to availability of funds, operational necessity and satisfactory performance. However, the assignment is not expected to be renewed.

The applicable volunteer living allowance is paid monthly to cover housing, utilities, and basic living expenses. Life, health, and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents – except for UN Community Volunteers), as well as final repatriation (if applicable). In addition, at non-family duty stations that fall into hardship categories D or E, as classified by the International Committee for purposes of determining whether they are limited, a welfare differential will be paid monthly.
